Forgive a brief blog post tonight! This was a very long travel day as we begin our journey back to Rome. And June 2 is a national holiday in Italy. With the holiday falling on Friday, it created a three day weekend. Roads were heavily congested as people headed to resorts, family homes and the sea. We were caught in traffic multiple times, extending our travel time.
We at last arrived at our destination, the beautiful and charming village of Assisi, known as the birthplace and home of Italy’s patron saint, Francis. We enjoyed touring St Francis’ Basilica, where the saint’s body is entombed, and climbing the long road to the square at the city’s highest point.
Tomorrow we stop in Orvieto to explore and then we arrive in Rome for our final dinner together. We are sad our tour is coming to an end, but oh, the memories we have stored up! Until tomorrow…ciao!
