As an avid gardener, one of the essential elements in my backyard is an herb garden. I love walking through that section. As my legs and hands brush against the herbs they release their fragrances, scenting the air around me. It’s so easy to stand still and breathe deeply when inhaling an aromatic mix of basil, thyme, mint, bee balm, lemon balm, marjoram, tarragon and lavender.

Lavender is one of my favorite herbs. I currently have two varieties growing in my herb garden. So imagine my delight when FARMERS Lavender Co contacted me about working together.

I received Lavender and Chamomile Loose Leaf Tea and Lavender Infused Honey to try.

The FARMERS Lavender Co Products I Tried

I am enjoying both of the products I received.

Lavender Chamomile Tea

The Lavender Chamomile Loose Leaf Tea is a delicious and aromatic blend of two soothing herbs.

Lavender offers many health benefits, including:

  • Relieves headaches, including migraines
  • Aids relaxation & helps induce sleep
  • Reduces anxiety & depression
  • Aids digestion
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Diuretic
  • Antiseptic
  • Anti-viral
  • Improves heart health
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduces symptoms from asthma, colds, flu & fever
  • Alleviates dizziness

And chamomile does more than aid with sleep. Its benefits include:

  • eases anxiety and stress
  • soothes digestive system
  • relieves bronchial congestion
  • eases muscle spasms
  • lowers blood sugar
  • relieves headaches and migraines
  • anti-inflammatory
  • cleanses liver and kidneys

This tea is a soothing blend for an afternoon tea break or an end of day drink before bed. Simply add a tablespoon of the loose leaf tea to a cup of hot water, cover and let steep for five minutes. The floral aroma and taste are wonderful!

I’ve appreciated this tea blend tremendously. Plus as a bonus, both of these herbs help ease achy joints and arthritis pain. FARMERS provides this perfectly blended tea, making it easy to prepare a cup daily.

Lavender Infused Honey

The second product I received is the Lavender Infused Honey.

As one who embraces a plant based lifestyle, I appreciate the healing properties of honey. I also use honey that’s ethically sourced from beekeepers who care about the health and welfare of the bees.

Honey is highly absorbable and its B12 coenzymes make it a powerful brain food. Plus raw honey repairs DNA and it is extremely high in minerals such as calcium, potassium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, chromium, molybdenum and manganese. Its anti inflammatory properties inhibit pathogens from procreating and releasing toxins that increase inflammation. Honey supports the immune system.

Trying an infused honey is new to me. So what did I think? The flavor of the Lavender Infused Honey is a delicious combination of sweet and floral with a hint of spice. I love adding it to toasted gluten free bread, slathered with plant based butter.

Today, for afternoon tea, I baked vegan, gluten free blueberry scones. What a homey treat on a rather dreary, overcast day. The hot lavender and chamomile tea, paired with a fresh from the oven scone drizzled with lavender infused honey, refreshed my body and my mind. Truly, I savored the moment and the mini meal.

A Lavender Night

I have had the movie, Ladies in Lavender, on my Amazon Prime Watch List for a while. It is an older film, released in 2004, starring two of my favorite actresses, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. When I came across the DVD for rent at the library, I checked it out.

I didn’t intend to write a review for this charming film, due to the age of it. However, always open to possibilities, I found myself inspired by it, nonetheless. An idea came to me as I watered the garden late this afternoon. The delicate scent of lavender tickled my nose as I brushed against the plants in my apothecary garden. The movie seemed to suggest a lavender theme as the perfect setting for immersing myself in the story.

After a light dinner, I brewed a cup of tea, made from a sprig of lavender freshly plucked from my garden. As the tea steeped, filling my kitchen with its tantalizing aroma, I made banana and wild blueberry nice dream. This simple treat is perfect for these hot muggy nights. And it is so easy to make.

I purchased ripe bananas on sale at the market, cut them up yesterday, and froze them in bags containing four of the sliced fruits each. Tonight I combined a bag of frozen bananas with two cups of frozen wild blueberries in the food processor. In a few minutes I had cold and creamy banana blueberry nice dream. I added a small amount of lavender infused water to my cold treat, giving it just a hint of additional flavor.

With my tea, my treat, the movie and Young Living lavender essential oil in my diffuser, my lavender themed evening was underway.

And what a wonderful evening it was.

The film was an enchanting period piece, highlighting the beauty of love at any age. Two spinster sisters, played by Dench and Smith, rescue a young man who is washed overboard off of a ship during a storm. As Andrea, played by Daniel Brühl, recovers from his injuries, the sisters discover that he is a gifted violinist who was on his way to America for a chance to hone his musical ability.

The older women save Andrea…and the young man reawakens their hearts, reminding them…and me as I watched the story unfold…that true love gives itself away, and always offers freedom to others.

What a hauntingly poignant film, that redefines the meaning of a happy ending. I was teary eyed by the end, and wanted to applaud. I smiled instead and vowed to carry the deeper truths with me for a while.

I enjoyed my lavender evening. Feeling curious about the benefits of lavender, I looked it up and discovered that it has a soothing, calming effect on the body. Lavender improves sleep, lessens anxiety, slows the aging process and is a great healer of the skin.

The Latin word lavender literally means wash and may refer to the infusions made with the plant in early times, or to the aroma that washes over the senses.

Going deeper still, I learned that the purple color of the flowers are associated with the crown chakra, which is the energy center located at the top of the head. The crown chakra is associated with higher purpose and spiritual connectivity. The vibration of the crown is the highest vibration in the body. Lavender is thought to heal and raise our vibration to the highest possible level. This aromatic herb, therefore, strengthens my connection to the Divine.

And that, I now believe, was the purpose of my lavender evening. My day began with heightened energy around my crown chakra and a powerful connection to the Divine. That was unintentional on my part but a very deliberate invitation, apparently. And inspiration led me full circle, ending my day with lavender…and a heart overflowing with love and a body humming with high vibrational energy.

I am grateful.

Lavender Tea

After traveling today to be with family, and a long afternoon spent awaiting good news, which we joyfully received, it was good to get home and consider which herbal tea to sip on this evening. I have been sampling different teas, brewed from herbs grown in my garden. I had one herb left to try. I brewed a cup of lavender tea.

I only have a few blooms left on the lavender plants in the garden, so I opted to use dried flowers that I saved from last fall. There is still beauty in this preserved lavender, and a rich scent. I used a couple of stems with flowers attached and a tablespoon of dried petals to create my tea.

As the tea steeped, I looked up the health benefits of lavender tea. I’ve used this aromatic herb for years in homemade skin products and in my own potpourri, plus I keep a bottle of lavender oil on hand. This was my first time to use the herb in a tea.

Health benefits include:

  • Relieves headaches, including migraines
  • Aids relaxtion & helps induce sleep
  • Reduces anxiety & depression
  • Aids digestion
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Diuretic
  • Antiseptic
  • Anti-viral
  • Improves heart health
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduces symptoms from asthma, colds, flu & fever
  • Alleviates dizziness

I appreciate the versatility of this easy to grow, fragrant plant. I have several varieties thriving in my garden and I enjoy brushing against the herb and catching a whiff of the distinctive scent.

I let the herb steep in very hot water for about 12 minutes. The tea was a light golden brown in color. And the aroma was amazing as I sipped the delicately flavored tea. What a deliciously satisfying drink to finish out my day.

I have no more herbs growing in my garden to try. I’ve enjoyed using each plant to create a flavorful, healthy tea. I’ll experiment now with different combinations, like mint/Rosemary and lemon balm/lavendar or sage/bee balm. The possibilities…and benefits…are endless!
